Yesterday, a sleeping man got attacked by a mountain lion in Nevada City (next town up from where I am at my mother's.) He survived the attack, but someone also just got rescued from near the same place (The Yuba River) -- it's just gorgeous up there. But there are a lot of nice cabins and inns. No reason whatsoever to camp. Or hike alone.
The hiker was 34. The mountain lion camper, 63. Age is clearly not a risk factor. Loneliness, is.
A camping buddy. If you don't have one, get one.
My daughter and her best friend will be heading to Yosemite this summer to camp with dad and grandpa. I, however, have learned from these campers and I will not be going. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Remember, the view is just as lovely from a well-appointed balcony as it is from a dirty tent cabin.

I went canoeing on the lakes by the Minnesota and Canadian border a few times. It was fun but I never went back. I like my electronics, a decent bed, and not having to pull bugs out of my food :)

Outdoors by day, inside at night. I like that lifestyle.

I'm with you. My friend and I rented a cabin at The Redwoods in Yosemite five years in a row, while our husbands either reserved a nearby campsite or went backpacking. We even brought them a casserole once that we made in the oven. Best kind of camping ever. Lol

This does not make me feel good. After we camp in my on laws old motorhome in fire stricken CO, we are tent camping near there in Felton, CA. Yes, I'd say we are risking ours lives!

You'll be twenty minutes from me in Felton. Go to the Mystery Spot for the cheese factor! LOL
