On the way home, we saw a billboard for "REO Speedwagon" and "Styx" coming to a nearby venue. Naturally, I squealed and my kids said, "Mom, it's right near your birthday. You could go for your birthday."
"No, I can't. I'll be at Adam Ant for my birthday." AND THEY ALL LAUGHED!!!
"Is something funny?" I asked.
To which they promptly and RIGHTLY answered, "No."
"That's what I thought. Let's see if in twenty years--"
"Twenty, Mom? Being kind to yourself?"
OOOH they are so gonna get it. "In thirty years, let's see if your bands have the kind of staying power as my generation's."
They then went through their OWN iPods and proved my point. AC/DC, ELO, Journey, Queen, Guns & Roses, Aerosmith and we listened to "Renegade" by Styx. So who will they go see at the Indian casinos? LMFAO? Their state fairs? Gym Class Heroes?
Sure, Gaga will still be playing the arenas like Madonna, but rock bands? What do they have, Green Day? Coldplay?
Maybe there are more and I'm just too old to know, but I'm also old enough to know good music. : ) Laughing at your Mom. So wrong, right?
