When you always have five people in a vehicle, we all have different tastes. It seems that somehow under natural conditions, there are songs that stay on no matter what (because someone in the car loves that song.) Examples are Adam Ant, Gotye, Matt Nathanson oh and "Shock the Monkey" for Mom, AC/DC for Trey, Pat Benatar & Payphone by Maroon 5 (the clean version) for Elle. Then there are the argue points where someone lunges toward the radio to MAKE IT STOP! Music that to someone in the vehicle are NAILS on the chalkboard.
For me:
Scrillex -- Oh my, I want to rip someone's hair out.
Rage Against the Machine -- every time they come on, I unwittingly say, "Devil music, get the devil music off!" LOL
And this might be a surprise, but Rhianna. I cannot STAND that woman's voice. In fact, the only time I enjoy it is when Eminem is rapping about hurting her, and that is wrong, so then I feel icky.
For my boys, anything 40's -- though Glenn Miller stays.
For Elle: Prince. She absolutely HATES Prince and it doesn't matter what song. She hears that voice and she just cringes.
Who makes you cringe? I know it isn't Peter Gabriel.

When I saw the title of the post on Twitter, I was coming poised to list the people whose speaking voices great on me--#1 is Mary Murphy on So You Think You Can Dance. I mute every time the camera turns on her.
But that's not what this post is about. I have SO many, and I didn't realize until I started to try to list them. Some, though, it's less about the voice and more about the person and their music (eg: Toby Keith, Ke-dollar sign-ha, and Kanye).
But I can't stand the gritty voices of Nickleback, Rod Stewart, and (I know I'm going to offend some people here) Michael W. Smith--just to see if I can offend EVERYONE, I'll add Mac Powell of Third Day to the list. Did I miss anyone?

Nooooo . . . typo! *GRATE* And nothing grates on me more than typos.

I love it!!! My BFF's college boyfriend HATED Michael W. Smith's voice, and used to imitate it well. LOL

My typo in the title did not help. It's been a LOONG week. I'm so worn out from summer, I cannot to have a break and work again. LOL

I have never been able to figure out what he is saying in that song, aside from some the fact some monkey needs a couple of volts.
I know some people here are big fans, but Barry Manilow's voice drives me nuts. I have heard a bunch of his songs and listening make me feel that I am the one getting the volts LOL
I really like to listen to what a musician is saying in his or her songs. So any artist who writes a whole song about how much money they make or how many people they have slept with annoys me.

Chris Martin from Cold Play. Ugh, boring, droning, sleep-inducing. Also, an Aussie singer Kate Ceberano. I don't doubt her talent but I cannot take the nasally voice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRcLLfCRfqo&feature=related Kate if you don't know her.

Taylor Swift! Her terrible voice is everywhere and you just can't get away from hearing her - absolutely everywhere you go! Please make it stop! :)

Oh my goodness, Nicki Minaj. If I hear Starships one more time, someone is going to get hurt!
Posted by: Brittaney | July 09, 2012 at 06:36 AM
Ohhhh Nickelback. Pandora keeps trying to play them, but the voices are so harsh.

Okay, understand I love Carrie Underwood BUT when she does those uptempo songs, it sounds like she's SCREECHING. Drives me nuts. Please, girl, just sing.

I'm totally with you on that. Carrie Underwood is "okay" in my book but I really hate most of her uptempo songs for the same reason. Ugh!

That's funny. It's so true that some people don't work in either up-tempo or slow songs. Steve Perry is someone who did both well. Ah, Journey. : )

"Let's hang on, to what we've got!"…"Oh Mandy, you came and you gave without taking…" "At the Copa…Copacabana…" I LOVE Barry!

And so this is motive to make Barry Manilow a SITH?? SO wrong!

Rod Stewart. Can't stand to hear him scream, "I lu-uh-uhve you, yes I do." If he was singing that to me I think I'd shoot myself.

My mom loves him, and to me, it's like nails on a chalkboard!
