Seriously, these people are SO SELFISH. I understand they're hurting, but come on, drunk driving? Why harm other people rather than stay home and get bombed? I don't get this kind of behavior. Addicts need to stay home.

Addicts don't recognize their problem. Your post describes the essence of the problem.

It's true, and I've seen the hell of someone outside the addiction trying to control it. But it still makes me angry that DUIs are so commonplace!

Addicts are very selfish. It's only about what they think they "need" & they'll do anything to get it. They can't see anything else and if they do they simple don't care bc the addiction is stronger than any other emotion thu might feel.

I had a bible study where we were talking about addictions and it was pointed out that most addicts don't know how deep their problem goes until they have to confront it or are forced to confront it (ie getting arrested). I had a co-worker who was complaining that drunk driving laws were too strict. My first though was "I am never going to a company party with her in attendance." She had no clue how her driving was going to effect others.

I was a Rick Springfield fan in high school :-) so I read his autobiography/memoir (fyi-it was really well written - don't know if he had help with it) and it seems like he has battled this addictive personality his whole life - I hope he can get some real help before he seriously hurts himself or other people.
