I never carry cash. Like never. I'm like a kindergartner. "Daddy, do you have any money?"
Today, I got my comeuppance. I was at Safeway (where I live!) and getting a soy mocha after the shopping (reward yourself after mundane tasks!) and I forget that my Starbucks' card doesn't work in their machines. To which they always act like I'm some kind of criminal -- it's not THEM you see. It's me.
"Are you SURE you have money on it?"
"It automatically reloads."
She looks at me doubtfully.
So I dig through my purse and come up with $4.45 cents. And it's $4.70. There is this kindly, elderly man behind me and he smiles at me with...dare I say it? PITY. He PITIES me because I cannot pay for my coffee. When I take my credit card out and swipe it, his face drops in disappointment -- like my welfare check has just bounced. I am everything that is wrong with the next generation!
Note to self: 2013 is the year of cash. Carry it. Use it. Money is our friend.

Why didn't you just use your credit card instead of digging for cash in the first palace?

I have had that happen more than once. I generally have cash, but my dh likes to take it all w/o telling me. I am enough of a mess w/o his assistance. :)

I'm going to show this post to my Gen Y friend. She never has cash and has had to borrow from me before. LOL

My father and I had the following conversation on NYE as I was on Discover's website looking at how much I spent for the year. They spend over an hour at McDonalds or Burger King every day, and then wonder why I just skip lunch when I'm home rather than go with them because my mother refuses to keep lunch food in the house.
Dad - I'd like to know how much I spend in a year with us eating out for lunch every day.
Me - I'm sure it's on Visa's website.
Dad - I won't use a credit card at places like that. Do you know how high the credit card bill would be?
Me - Well, since you are already paying in cash, pay the bill in full each month, and get 1% cash back, I'm going to go with overall less than you would otherwise spend.

That's what I do too. Then, my husband can yell at me with records. LOL

I didn't want to charge $4 -- that seems pathetic. Pathetic, but my reality.

I always charge $4. Unless it is a local small business, credit cards that get paid off every month are it.

I hate carrying cash, and then I get my comeuppance at a snack machine.

I rarely have cash. I don't really care that much to go to an ATM and get it and buy something when a card swipe is easier. On the flip side when one of us has cash it doesn't last long. I feel bad swiping a card to buy a soda, not so much if I can beg/borrow/steal enough cash from a various "sources" around the the house :)

I hardly ever carry cash and yet I hate using my bank card for anything less than $4. I've paid for coffee before with all change... not a pretty sight.

Lol I tried that but I was fifteen cents short!

I rarely have cash and use my card for everything. But it's hooked up to my savings account so works just like cash:)

Yesterday I was in San Francisco and we decided to head over to Marin but I was really low on gas. We stop at a station and their card system is down. No credit, no debit, nada. You could see every customer just sort of stagger to take in that news. WHAT WILL WE DO?! I luckily had enough with me yesterday to get a half a tank.
