First off, my favorite dress at the SAG Awards was Claire Danes -- Givinchy. Loved the rockin' 80's check down the slit.
And on the nasty side, I'm sort of over Mary Crawley thinking she's a fashion icon. We like you in Downton, it doesn't make you a movie star. Just sayin' And the dress, with its side boob is TACKY and straight out of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
And this little number:
Well, I'm happy my girl Jennifer Lawrence won for Best Actress, but I really want "Silver Linings Playbook" to win an award for best written adapted screenplay this year. That's my favorite award naturally and it's usually not won by boring movies where stars self-congratulate. It's usually won by AWESOME dialogue which is the Holy Grail of movies for me.
Past winners for original screenplay:
Notorious (1946 and my all-time favorite movie!) Okay, it was only nominated. But it totally should have won! (7th Veil did -- I know, right?)
Sunset Blvd. (1950) FABULOUS dialogue! Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.
Pillow Talk (1959 I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!)
Now some you might know:
Moonstruck
Rainman
Ghost
Thelma & Louise
The Usual Suspects (I would argue Toy Story should have won this year!)
The King's Speech
Midnight in Paris (Bridesmaids had better dialogue, but it was funny and dirty, so it's not going to win. Booo!)
For best adapted Screenplays: Notables:
Gone with the Wind -- oh yeah!
The Philadelphia Story -- OMG SUCH GREAT DIALOGUE!!!
Casablanca -- well, duh.
1944 got it wrong, wrong!!!
Winner: Going My Way ????
Losers:
Gaslight (just watched it again -- fantastic oh and I love her white dress!) And seriously, IT BECAME A VERB in Psychology!
Laura
Double Indemnity
Meet me In St. Louis
A Moment to Admire Ingrid's Dress in Gaslight
From Here to Eternity
The Godfather
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Amadeus
A Room with a View
Sense & Sensibility
A Beautiful Mind
This year it's:
Silver Linings Playbook
Argo
Life of Pi
Lincoln
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Tough competition -- Lincoln bored the HECK out of me dialogue-wise -- it was a beautiful movie to watch, but I hope it doesn't win for writing.
