It's past it's warranty and they could offer me another with the physical keyboard (which I liked) for a discount, but it was a refurbished model. As I sit here with a broken refurbished model I bought little more than a year ago, that didn't sound like such a good deal. So I bought the cheapest new version they had.
It does look smaller, so that might be nice. And I don't have to send the other one back (with my aversion for the post office this is good.)
Real books don't die. Just sayin'

That's the same one I got my oldest for Christmas - she doesn't go anywhere without it. It's really nice!
I left the house without mine yesterday and was quite lost. I love the smell/feel of real books but love the portability of the kindle. Glad you've got another one, but boo that your old one passed on. :)

Oh thanks for saying so Katie. I don't go anywhere without mine either, and I'm missing it already. I had just bought that new Jenna Miscavige book to read on Scientology. So I was very bummed when it didn't turn on last night.
Isn't it nice to have them while you wait? I mean, that's all we seem to do as parents, so that helps me immensely.

Oh that would have bummed me out too! And yes, I'm totally with you on that. They're a lifesaver while waiting during the kids' activities. :)

Have you seen the Kindle Paperwhite? It has the usual paperwhite screen that can be easily viewed in bright sunlight but it also has a backlight that can be turned on at night. Pretty cool!! :)

I have, but it was too rich for my blood. I still don't trust that it's going to last, so I'd never buy the expensive one. My mom has her original one. I think I'm probably harder on mine, but still. They really should have replaced this one for free in my opinion.

Have you never had to throw a book away cause it got ruined? Real books do die :( :( :( :( :( :( and they can't be downloaded again.
That being said - I'm sorry yours died. I love my Kindle Fire (got it because it was cheaper to get it and rent/buy digital copies of my text books. I know I accidently broke a friend's Kindle and I was not looking forward to paying for it but apparently her warranty covered it :)

That is too bad. We the the original one and it has survived being dropped and smashed into places it should not be. Hopefully this one can take more of a beating.

I bought a Kindle off of a friend, got it super cheap and she had barely used it before she got an iPad as a present. Then I didn't use it much at all (read maybe 5-6 books on it) because I had started law school but I had it for about a year...and it died. The options Amazon offered me were horrible. I got a Kindle for Christmas and I like the one without the keyboard better, but now I wish he had saved the money toward an iPad mini! I'm just disappointment with Kindle technology even though I love the concept. Next to all the other technology we have, it feels like a typewriter.
