Michelle Williams is a genius actress. (Yeah, I know they say actor now, so what?) I watched "Manchester by the Sea" yesterday and she is unbelievably fantastic in that role. Incredible. But then, you can add that to her list:
My Week with Marilyn
Brokeback Mountain (which I never saw)
But she has FOUR Oscar nominations for great work. And Emma Stone danced a little (very little) and acted like herself on screen. What the heck? I'm kinda ticked about this one. This is Hollywood. They should reward great acting -- not whatever Emma did on screen in that movie. Be cute? She is always essentially the same person on screen, ie., not really acting. So I'm at a loss over this one and the whole love affair with that dumb movie anyway. La La Land was just meh.
Michelle Williams is an actor's actor. She's about the work and I just think she should be rewarded for that. Hollywood never seems to get it right anymore. They didn't even nominate Taraji P. Henson for "Hidden Figures" and she was SO good in that movie. Plus, she slayed it on the red carpet.
Anyway, "Manchester by the Sea" is depressing as hell, but it was a really good movie. Be warned, there's a lot of swearing in the movie, but the acting is incredible. Casey deserved that award and trust me, I'm no Affleck fan.
The best part of Hollywood seems to be coming up on the new Ryan Murphy series, "Feud." How delicious that old Hollywood had such a feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. I'm sure they were both awful women -- which is why I can't wait for this series. Going in, I'm pro-Bette, but we shall see...I did grow up in the "No Wire Hangers" era, so that's to be expected.
May I just say that I love Ryan Murphy's take on things (minus the horror like "Scream Queens" & "American Horror Story" -- so not into that!) He's interested in all the same things that I am and he's basically the same age, so he grew up a weirdo like I did -- enjoying things before his time. I love that he's so loyal to his actors. Once he finds a good one, why veer from that? (See: Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson.) His content can be a little adult for me, but I did love that OJ miniseries, and I'm so excited for this one.
